Description
Vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin, is a water-soluble B-group vitamin that plays an important role in metabolism and energy production. It is essential for the formation and maintenance of red blood cells, antibody synthesis, tissue growth, and cellular respiration. Vitamin B2 improves eye health, reduces eye fatigue, and plays an important role in the prevention of cataracts. Vitamin B2 is obtained from food sources. Testing is recommended to diagnose vitamin B2 deficiency in the presence of characteristic symptoms such as inflammation of the oral mucosa, seborrheic eczema on the face and other parts of the body, conjunctivitis, photophobia, decreased light and color sensitivity, cataracts, or normocytic, normochromic anemia.
When and who needs the test?
- Diagnosis of vitamin B2 deficiency.
- Presence of signs of avitaminosis.
Screening of individuals at risk:
- vegans and vegetarians following diets that exclude eggs and dairy products;
- anorexia nervosa;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- chronic gastrointestinal diseases (celiac disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease);
- rare genetic disorders.

In order to exclude factors that may affect the test results, we recommend to follow the preparation rules:
