Description
Mercury is a heavy metal, the vapors of which in high concentrations are fatal to humans.
In case of mercury poisoning, headaches, indigestion, general weakness, drowsiness, memory and attention disorders, muscle pain, tremors appear.
Determination of mercury levels makes it possible to diagnose poisoning, determine its severity, and adjust treatment. It is better to combine it with general and biochemical blood tests.
When and who needs the test?
- to detect excessive amounts of mercury in the body;
- for the diagnosis of acute or chronic mercury poisoning (for example, when examining patients who are susceptible to contact with mercury in the workplace);
- for the detection of methylmercury.

Preparing for a blood test
In order to exclude factors that may affect the test results, we recommend to follow the preparation rules:
- an important condition for laboratory tests is to take blood on an empty stomach.
