Description
Selenium is a trace element that plays an important role in ensuring the normal functioning of the endocrine, cardiovascular, nervous, immune, and reproductive systems of the body.
Selenium deficiency contributes to the development of diseases of the circulatory system, oncology, viral infections, disorders of the thyroid gland and reproductive organs. An excess of selenium leads to the development of toxic effects on the body.
Selenium levels are assessed to determine whether there is a deficiency or excess in the body.
When and who needs the test?
- revealing a deficiency or excess of selenium;
- monitoring of selenium concentration during long-term parenteral nutrition;
- assessment of the risk or presence of cancer, diseases of the cardiovascular system;
- toxic liver damage, chronic alcoholism.

In order to exclude factors that may affect the test results, we recommend to follow the preparation rules:
