9205. Marker of bone matrix formation (Total P1NP)
Description
P1NP (Procollagen Type 1 N-Terminal Propeptide) is a bone-specific fragment of the main protein involved in the formation of bone tissue. Measuring P1NP provides valuable insight into bone health at any stage of life and plays a key role in diagnosing a wide range of bone-related disorders.
For a more comprehensive evaluation, P1NP testing is best performed alongside measurements of β-CrossLaps, calcium, vitamin D, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels.
When and who needs the test?
- Evaluation of treatment effectiveness in patients with osteoporosis and other bone disorders. Increased levels are expected with anabolic therapy, while decreased levels indicate a response to antiresorptive treatment.
- Monitoring therapy for various bone pathologies beyond osteoporosis.
Biological material
- Venous blood
