9202. Haptoglobin
Description
Haptoglobin is a protein synthesized by the liver that plays an important role in the storage of iron. Haptoglobin increases with the development of inflammatory and necrotic processes in the body and decreases with hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells) and liver damage.
The study of haptoglobin levels makes it possible to diagnose hemolytic diseases and liver diseases of various etiologies. It should be determined in combination with the study of ALT, AST, ALP, C-reactive protein.
When and who needs the test?
- anemia, suspected hemolysis;
- blood transfusion reactions;
- examination of patients with artificial heart valves;
- complex assessment of acute phase indicators of inflammation.
