9194. Mitochondrial antibodies (AMA, method IFT)
Description
AMA are autoantibodies directed against mitochondrial antigens. The analysis for AMA by the IFT method is a screening method, it detects all types of these antibodies and is indicated for suspected primary biliary cirrhosis, in the presence of an enlarged liver or spleen, jaundice of the skin and sclera, itching, changes in liver function tests.
The analysis can be assigned to patients from risk groups for the development of primary biliary cirrhosis (relatives of the patient). The results of the study make it possible to differentiate cirrhosis from other autoimmune and inflammatory liver lesions (hepatitis, cholangitis).
The AMA test is performed in combination with the analysis of liver enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, ALT, AST), bilirubin, indicators of autoimmune diseases, the determination of antimitochondrial antibodies M2 (AMA-M2).
