9173. Islet cell antibody, IgG antibodies (ICA, method IFT)
Description
The pancreatic islet apparatus (islets of Langerhans) is the part of the pancreas responsible for the synthesis and secretion of insulin. The presence of antibodies to the islets of Langerhans may indicate the development of type 1 diabetes in a patient.
Detection of these antibodies is used not only for diagnosis but also to predict the likelihood of developing the disease. Crucially, this test can predict the development of diabetes 1-8 years before the onset of clinical symptoms.
When and who needs the test?
- Differential diagnosis of type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
- Identification of predisposition to diabetes in relatives of patients with type 1 diabetes.
- Assessing the risk of developing diabetes in patients with polyendocrinopathy and other autoimmune diseases.
Biological material
- Venous blood
