Description
Macroprolactin is a high-molecular-weight complex of prolactin and immunoglobulin G.
When and who needs the test?
In the presence of hyperprolactinemia symptoms, such as oligomenorrhea/amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and infertility in women; decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and infertility in men – and also in asymptomatic hyperprolactinemia (serum prolactin level exceeding 250 mIU/L without clinical symptoms), this test is used for differential diagnosis of hyperprolactinemia caused by elevated monomeric prolactin levels.
