Description
Renin is a substance produced in the kidneys and is involved in the regulation of blood pressure, the intensity of blood circulation in the kidneys and the maintenance of water and electrolyte balance. Assessment of direct renin levels plays an important role in finding the underlying cause and differential diagnosis of diseases that are characterized by an increase in blood pressure.
It is desirable to take this test in combination with an assessment of the levels of aldosterone in the blood.
When and who needs the test?
- differential diagnosis of arterial hypertension (especially resistant forms);
- hypokalemia;
- increase in the level of aldosterone in the blood;
- diagnosis of reninoma.
