8071. PMF. Bartholin gland cysts
Important information
*For testing, the brougt-in biomaterial is taken
*For the test ordering a special doctor's referral is required
Description
The Bartholin glands are a pair of structures located at the base of the labia majora that secrete a moisturizing fluid into the vagina. If the ducts of the gland are sealed, a closed cavity is formed in which fluid accumulates. The gland increases in size and becomes inflamed, becoming like a tumor.
To differentiate a cystic formation from a tumor one should take a sample of gland tissue by biopsy and send it for histological examination.
PMF is to establish the final diagnosis (confirming or excluding oncology) and choose the most effective treatment.
When and who needs the test?
The test is performed to assess the risk of pathological changes in the tissue and cells of the Bartholin gland cyst.
Biological material
- Various types of biopsy material depending on the test
