Description

NGS analysis of the gut microbiome is a modern, high-tech method that allois aimed at the qualitative and quantitative determination of gut microbiome composition using DNA sequencing. This method identifies over 2,000 species of bacteria, archaea, fungi, and viruses, assessing their relative abundance, interrelationships, and impact on human health.

The gut microbiome is a complex ecosystem of trillions of microorganisms that play a role in digestion, vitamin synthesis (B12, K), immune function, pathogen defense, and even mood and metabolism regulation. An imbalance of microflora (dysbiosis) can lead to a number of pathologies: metabolic syndrome, obesity, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), autoimmune processes, skin diseases, and more.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is a group of advanced technologies that determine the precise order of nucleotides in DNA molecules. Based on the sequence of specific genes, NGS can identify the microorganisms present in a sample, down to the genus and even species level, to answer the question: "What's in there?"

Metagenomic DNA sequencing technology is also used to study gut microorganisms, making it possible to enumerate hundreds of bacterial species, including those that cannot be cultured in the laboratory.

The central element of NGS technology is the analysis of the 16S rRNA gene, which serves as a universal and highly conserved marker for all bacteria and enables accurate identification. This technique is the benchmark for comprehensive microbiota analysis, determining gut microbial diversity to predict resistance or susceptibility to specific treatments, understanding host-pathogen immune interactions, and tracking disease progression.

When and who needs the test?

When?

  • For long-term bowel disturbances (diarrhea, constipation, bloating).
  • If dysbiosis is suspected after antibiotic therapy or infections.
  • For autoimmune, allergic, and inflammatory diseases (including ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease).
  • To assess the risk of metabolic disorders, obesity, or insulin resistance.
  • In patients with dermatological problems (acne, atopic dermatitis).
  • Before starting probiotic therapy or to monitor its effectiveness.

Who should use it?

  • Adults and children with gastrointestinal disorders.
  • Patients with chronic complaints (fatigue, weight loss, anxiety, weakened immunity).
  • Individuals who have undergone courses of antibiotics, chemotherapy, or have a weakened immune system.
  • Individuals concerned about prevention and long-term gut health.
  • Individuals who want to determine their predisposition to autoimmune diseases, or the possible development of Parkinson's or Alzheimer's.
