Description

Karyotyping is an analysis of a person's chromosome set. When planning a pregnancy, it is important to test both partners: identifying chromosomal changes allows us to assess the risk of miscarriage, infertility, or the birth of a child with congenital defects.

Karyotyping is a cytogenetic test that assesses the number and structure of chromosomes.

The GTG method can identify:

  • chromosomal rearrangements (deletions, duplications, translocations);
  • quantitative abnormalities (monosomies, trisomies);
  • genetic causes of infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss.

The analysis is especially important when planning a pregnancy, undergoing IVF, or with a history of complicated reproductive losses.

A comprehensive karyotype assessment of both partners ensures greater diagnostic accuracy and allows the physician to choose the optimal pregnancy management strategy or reproductive planning.

When and who needs the test?

  • For male or female infertility.
  • For primary amenorrhea.
  • For recurrent miscarriages (two or more miscarriages).
  • For miscarriages or stillbirths of unknown origin.
  • In cases of early infant mortality or the birth of a child with a chromosomal abnormality.
  • For children with multiple birth defects.
  • When planning IVF or after unsuccessful attempts at artificial insemination.
  • To assess hereditary risks and predict the health of the unborn child.
