Description

Blood karyotyping is an analysis of a person's chromosome set, allowing for the detection of quantitative and structural abnormalities. The CITO format allows for expedited processing. It is recommended for infertility, miscarriage, chromosomal abnormalities, and IVF planning.

Karyotyping is a cytogenetic test performed using GTG staining and allows for the assessment of the number, structure, and morphology of chromosomes. A normal karyotype should contain 46 chromosomes, including sex chromosomes.

Accelerated karyotyping (CITO) allows for rapid results, which is important when a serious chromosomal abnormality is suspected or when prompt clinical decision-making is required (for example, during pregnancy or before IVF).

This test allows for:

  • identifying aneuploidies (extra or missing chromosomes);
  • diagnosing translocations, deletions, and inversions;
  • determining a karyotype for a genetic passport;
  • assessing a couple's reproductive risks.

When and who needs the test?

  • Women and men with infertility.
  • In cases of recurrent miscarriage (two or more miscarriages).
  • In preparation for assisted reproductive technologies (IVF, ICSI).
  • In the case of the birth of a child with congenital malformations or developmental delays.
  • To determine the sex of the child in case of developmental disorders.
  • In the presence of a negative family history.

Biological material

  • Venous blood

Preparing for a blood test
