Description
Karyotyping is a quantitative and qualitative test of a person's chromosome set (karyotype), allowing for the identification of abnormalities in the number and structure of chromosomes. It is recommended for pregnancy planning, miscarriage, infertility, and suspected genetic disorders.
When and who needs the test?
Adults:
- if planning a pregnancy (especially after 35 years of age);
- in cases of recurrent miscarriage (2+ miscarriages);
- in cases of stillbirth or early neonatal death;
- if genetic abnormalities are suspected in the child or parents;
- in cases of male infertility (oligo-, azoospermia, teratozoospermia);
- in cases of unsuccessful IVF attempts;
- in cases of a high risk of chromosomal abnormality based on screening results (ultrasound, PRISCA, biochemistry).
Children:
- in cases of congenital malformations;
- in cases of delayed physical, speech, or sexual development;
- in cases of suspected genetic syndromes;
- in the presence of abnormalities of sexual development or intersex conditions.

Preparing for a blood test
In order to exclude factors that may affect the test results, we recommend to follow the preparation rules:
- an important condition for laboratory tests is to take blood on an empty stomach.
