Important information
*The prepared biomaterial is delivered in a tube with Amies transport medium. Sampling is performed by a physician.
Description
Bacteriological examination of amniotic fluid is a microbiological study that makes it possible to determine the qualitative and quantitative composition of the microflora of the amniotic fluid, in particular to detect conditionally pathogenic bacteria or true pathogenic microorganisms and to determine their antibiotic sensitivity with MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration). This makes it possible to rationally select antibiotics for treatment.
When and who needs the test?
- In case of suspected infection of the fetus or fetal membranes (chorioamnionitis, fetoplacental infection).
- In the presence of fever in the pregnant woman, lower abdominal pain, or changes in the characteristics of amniotic fluid (odor, color, turbidity).
- In cases of premature rupture of fetal membranes or threat of preterm labor.
- In cases of intrauterine fetal death or suspected neonatal sepsis. • For selecting effective treatment.
Biological material
- Various types of speciamen depending on the test
Preparing for sampling
- The material is collected before the treatment with antibacterial/antimycotic drugs started.
- In case of treatment control – after completing the course of antibacterial/antimycotic drugs after 14 days.
- The material is delivered in a tube for microbial culture with ‘Amies’ transport medium.
