Important information
*The prepared biomaterial is delivered in a tube with Amies transport medium. Sampling is performed by a physician.
Description
Lower respiratory tract secretion culture (LRT) is an automated bacteriological test that helps identify the pathogens causing bronchopulmonary infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, lung abscess, etc.) and determine their sensitivity to antibacterial drugs (antibiotic susceptibility test with MIC). The results help the physician select effective antibiotic therapy and monitor its effectiveness.
When and who needs the test?
- For patients with suspected inflammatory diseases of the bronchopulmonary system (pneumonia, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, lung abscess, pleural empyema).
- For differential diagnosis of pneumonia (pneumococcal, staphylococcal, streptococcal, etc.).
- For patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis.
- In cases of ineffective previous treatment or suspected antibiotic resistance.
- Before prescribing long-term antibiotic therapy, especially for patients with weakened immunity, chronic diseases, diabetes mellitus, or after prolonged hospitalization.
Biological material
- Various types of speciamen depending on the test
Preparing for sampling
- The material is collected before the treatment with antibacterial/antimycotic drugs started.
- In case of treatment control – after completing the course of antibacterial/antimycotic drugs after 14 days.
- The material is delivered in a tube for microbial culture with ‘Amies’ transport medium.
