Description
Discharge from the nipple of the breast can be both physiological and pathological. Taking the cytological test of discharge from the nipple allows is to determine the cause of their appearance, quantitative and qualitative characteristics.
The test is used in the diagnosis of hormonal disorders, breast cancer, to identify the causes of inflammatory processes. In case of discharge from both nipples, it is fundamentally important to simultaneously conduct two separate tests – cytology of discharge from the nipple of the left and right mammary glands.
When and who needs the test?
- diagnosis of breast cancer;
- clarification of the stage of tumor spread;
- determination of the degree of tumor differentiation;
- diagnosis of precancerous processes and benign neoplasms (for example, papillary cysts, proliferative mastopathy);
- detection of recurrence of prostate cancer;
- diagnosis of the inflammatory process in the mammary gland;
- diagnosis of dyshormonal changes in the mammary gland (for example, ductal ectasis);
- determination of the causative agent of infection.
