Description
The intrauterine device is an effective method of contraception, but their long-term use is associated with the risk of developing endometrial pathology. Therefore, after removing the coil, it is very important to conduct a cytological examination of cells in contact of the IUD with the endometrium.
The analysis allows timely detection of pathological changes in tissues (inflammatory processes, precancerous changes) and taking the necessary preventive measures.
When and who needs the test?
- diagnosis of abnormal development of the uterus;
- postmenopausal bleeding;
- violation of the menstrual cycle;
- diagnosis of benign diseases, precancerous conditions and endometrial cancer;
- assessment of the state of the endometrium, the degree of proliferation of the endometrium, the presence and severity of cell atypia, signs and degree of malignancy;
- identification of inflammatory processes and other complications caused using an intrauterine device.

- Smear on glass slide (various types depending on the test)
Preparing for urogenital sampling
Cytologic test for atypical cells (smear on glass)
- Exclude sexual intercourses for 3 days before sampling.
- Do not take antibacterial medications for 14 days before sampling.
- For 3 days before sampling, exclude vaginal douche and the use of vaginal suppositories, ointments, gels, tampons.
