Description
Colposcopy with cytological test is a study of vaginal discharge to assess hormonal levels. The method is based on the effect of ovarian steroid hormones on target organs, which include the vaginal epithelium.
As a result of this exposure, cyclic changes in the epithelium occur during the menstrual cycle, characterized by varying degrees of maturation of epithelial cells. It is used to identify the causes of infertility, menstrual disorders, hormonal disorders, assess the condition of the mother and fetus during pregnancy.
Colpocytology should be carried out in conjunction with other tests aimed at studying the hormonal background of a woman, for example, determining the levels of the main sex hormones.
When and who needs the test?
- evaluation of ovarian function and estrogen saturation of the body;
- diagnosis of the causes of miscarriage, infertility, menstrual disorders;
- diagnosis of hormonal changes in menopause;
- diagnosis of threatened miscarriage;
- evaluation of the effectiveness of hormone therapy;
- assessment of the hormonal background of a woman (it is recommended to evaluate four times (on the 6-7th; 12-14th; 16-18th; 23-25th days with a 28-day menstrual cycle);
- monitoring the condition of the fetus.

Preparing for urogenital sampling
- Collect the material before starting treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs (general and local action).
- In case of treatment monitoring – 14 days after the end of the course of treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs.
- Avoid sexual intercourse for 3 days.
