Description

The Nechyporenko urine analysis is the most effective method for quantitatively and qualitatively assessing urine composition. It allows for highly accurate determination of the number of red blood cells, white blood cells, and casts in 1 ml of urine. It is an important diagnostic test for assessing the condition of the kidneys and urinary system. It should be performed in conjunction with complete urine and blood tests, creatinine, urea, urea nitrogen, and trace element analysis.

The Nechyporenko method is a standardized quantitative urine analysis that involves analyzing a midstream portion of the first morning urine. Unlike a general urinalysis, this method can detect even minor urinary tract pathologies.

Three main indicators are determined:

  • Leukocytes – cells that indicate inflammation in the kidneys or urinary tract.
  • Erythrocytes – blood cells that can be a sign of vascular damage to the kidneys or urinary tract.
  • Casts – protein structures that form in the renal tubules and are a marker of renal pathology (e.g., glomerulonephritis or amyloidosis).

This method has high diagnostic accuracy and is used for both initial and follow-up diagnostics of chronic and acute urinary tract diseases.

When and who needs the test?

When?

  • If changes appear in a general urine analysis (leukocyturia, hematuria, proteinuria).
  • If there are symptoms of inflammation of the bladder, urethra, or kidneys (pain during urination, lower back pain, frequent urination, change in urine color).
  • To monitor treatment of kidney and urinary tract diseases.
  • If a latent urinary tract disease is suspected.

Who should use it?

  • Adults and children with symptoms of urinary tract infection or nephropathy.
  • Pregnant women – if changes are detected in a general urine analysis or for the purpose of screening for kidney pathologies.
  • Patients with chronic kidney disease or after pyelonephritis or glomerulonephritis.
  • People with arterial hypertension or systemic diseases (diabetes mellitus, systemic lupus erythematosus) that may affect the kidneys.
