A comprehensive laboratory test designed to determine the etiology of abnormal vaginal discharge. Combines PCR screening for Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Gardnerella vaginalis, Candida spp., and Lactobacillus spp. with bacteriological culture complemented by an antibiotic susceptibility test and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) determination.

The study enables the differential diagnosis of bacterial, fungal, aerobic, and specific vaginitis. Automated identification of microorganisms is performed using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry on the MALDI Biotyper sirius IVD System analyzer (Bruker, Germany). If pathogenic microflora is detected, antibiotic susceptibility testing is performed to ensure personalized treatment selection.

Package №38.2 “Diagnosis of Vaginal Discharge Causes” is a comprehensive laboratory test designed to identify, assess, and differentiate the main causes of abnormal vaginal discharge.

It combines PCR screening for vaginitis pathogens – Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Gardnerella vaginalis, Candida spp., and Lactobacillus spp. – with bacteriological culture of urogenital material, complemented by an antibiotic susceptibility test with MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) determination.

This approach ensures high diagnostic accuracy, allowing simultaneous assessment of vaginal microflora, detection of specific STIs, vaginal microbiome disturbances, and selection of effective antibacterial or antifungal therapy.

Main pathological conditions detected by the study:

Bacterial vaginosis – the most common cause of abnormal vaginal discharge in women of reproductive age. Caused by a decrease in Lactobacillus spp. and an increase in anaerobic microflora (Gardnerella vaginalis). Often asymptomatic, it may lead to pregnancy complications and increased risk of STIs.

Vulvovaginal candidiasis (thrush) – a fungal infection caused by excessive growth of Candida spp. (C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. krusei). Symptoms include itching, burning, and white curd-like discharge.

Aerobic vaginitis – inflammation associated with overgrowth of aerobic opportunistic bacteria (E. coli, Enterococcus spp., Streptococcus agalactiae, Staphylococcus spp.).

Chlamydial, mycoplasmal, and gonococcal infections – specific STIs that may be asymptomatic but can cause cervicitis, endometritis, salpingitis, and infertility.

Interpretation of bacteriological culture results is performed according to EUCAST / CLSI international standards.

If pathogens are detected, self-medication is unacceptable – results must be evaluated by a physician to select targeted therapy.
