Description

This is a comprehensive microbiological investigation combining PCR diagnostics for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) with bacteriological culture of urogenital specimens.

The panel allows detection of both specific pathogens (Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma, Trichomonas) and opportunistic bacterial microflora.

Automated identification of microorganisms is performed using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry on the MALDI Biotyper sirius IVD System analyzer (Bruker, Germany). If pathogens are detected, an antibiogram with MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) determination is performed to assess antibiotic effectiveness and support selection of targeted therapy.

Package №22 is a comprehensive laboratory test aimed at a complete assessment of infectious and inflammatory processes of the urogenital tract.

It combines two diagnostic methods:

  • PCR (polymerase chain reaction) – a highly sensitive molecular method that detects pathogen DNA at early stages, even in asymptomatic cases;
  • bacteriological culture (culture test) – a method that allows evaluation of the composition of opportunistic microflora and determination of antibiotic susceptibility.

This combination provides the most complete picture of the urogenital microbiocenosis and enables the physician to prescribe individualized and effective treatment.

The test includes detection of the DNA of the following main pathogens:

  • Chlamydia trachomatis – the most common etiological agent of nongonococcal urethritis, cervicitis, salpingitis, and prostatitis;
  • Mycoplasma hominis – an opportunistic bacterium associated with bacterial vaginosis, urethritis, and pelvic inflammatory diseases;
  • Ureaplasma species (U. parvum, U. urealyticum) – pathogens of urethritis, cervicitis, prostatitis, and pregnancy complications;
  • Trichomonas vaginalis – a parasite causing trichomoniasis, which often presents asymptomatically in men.

Bacteriological culture of urogenital material additionally allows:

  • determination of the qualitative and quantitative composition of the microflora;
  • detection of other opportunistic bacteria (including Enterococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., etc.);
  • performing an antibiotic susceptibility test with MIC determination (excluding Gardnerella spp.).

Interpretation of culture results is carried out according to EUCAST and CLSI standards.

If pathogens are detected, self-medication is unacceptable – the results must be evaluated by a physician to select targeted therapy.

When and who needs the test?

  • In the presence of urogenital infection symptoms (discharge, itching, burning, pain during urination, pelvic discomfort).
  • In cases of infertility (in men and women), before planning pregnancy or IVF.
  • In cases of recurrent miscarriage.
  • For follow-up after treatment of STIs.
  • To clarify the etiology of inflammatory diseases (urethritis, vaginitis, prostatitis, cervicitis).
  • After contact with an infected partner.

Preparing for urogenital sampling

Bacterial culturing for microflora + antibioticogram (for men)

  • Keep from ejaculation for 3 days before sampling.
  • Keep from urinating for 3 hours.
  • The biomaterial is sampled before the start of treatment with antibacterial, immunobiological, antifungal drugs.
  • In case of the treatment control (after the end...
