Description

PCR screening for the causes of vaginitis is a modern test for diagnosing bacterial vaginosis with a quantitative assessment of key microorganisms. It is aimed at the detection of dysbiosis, an accurate diagnosis, and the evaluation of treatment effectiveness and the causes of recurrence.

This test uses real-time PCR and identifies the main pathogens causing bacterial vaginosis (BV) based on their quantitative and qualitative composition.

It detects:

Quantitatively:

  • Lactobacillus spp. (L. crispatus, L. gasseri, L. jensenii);
  • Gardnerella vaginalis;
  • Atopobium vaginae.

Qualitatively:

  • Megasphaera (Type 1);
  • Bacteroides fragilis;
  • Bacterial vaginosis-associated bacteria 2;
  • Mobiluncus spp. (M. mulieris, M. curtisii).

Clinical Value of the Test:

  • Enables an accurate diagnosis of BV and stratification of patients based on the presence of Atopobium vaginae, which is associated with relapses and resistance to metronidazole.
  • Determines the degree of vaginal dysbiosis by identifying a broad spectrum of anaerobes.
  • Allows for personalized treatment strategies and monitoring its effectiveness.

This method provides:

  • reliable detection of microorganisms due to high sensitivity (up to 100 copies/reaction);
  • high-quality diagnostics thanks to Allplex test systems (Seegene, South Korea);
  • Synevo laboratory accreditation according to the international standard EN ISO 15189:2012;
  • sample quality control before analysis.

When and who needs the test?

  • Women with abnormal vaginal discharge – for an accurate diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis.
  • In cases of recurrent BV – to assess the composition of the microflora and persistent forms of the pathogen.
  • Before invasive gynecological procedures – to rule out inflammation.
  • Women with infertility or when planning a pregnancy – even in the absence of symptoms, given the high incidence of asymptomatic BV (up to 50%).
  • To monitor treatment, especially if standard therapy is ineffective.

Preparing for urogenital sampling

The sampling of biomaterial is carried out only in women.

  • Avoid sexual intercourse for 3 days.
  • Do not take antibacterial drugs for 14 days.
  • Within 3 days, exclude douching and the use of vaginal suppositories (suppositories), ointments, gels, tampons.
  • The biomaterial is taken at least 3 days after the end...
