Description
Varicella-zoster virus is an infectious agent that causes chickenpox and shingles. It is transmitted by airborne droplets, by contact with a rash and from mother to child.
Determination of the genetic material of the virus in the blood allows you to confirm infection with the Varicella-zoster virus.
The test is used for the diagnosis of herpes zoster and chickenpox, as well as for the differential diagnosis of diseases manifested by exanthems.
When and who needs the test?
- diagnosis of chickenpox, incl. with an atypical clinical picture, suspicion of a generalized process, damage to the central nervous system, especially against the background of HIV infection;
- the presence of a vesicular rash, especially in pregnant women and newborns, as well as in persons planning a pregnancy;
- differential diagnosis of exanthemic diseases;
- symptoms of congenital infection, malformations in newborns.
