Description

A PCR panel for women with genital ulcer symptoms allows for the accurate detection of seven pathogens: HSV-1/2, Treponema pallidum, CMV, VZV, Haemophilus ducreyi, and LGV. This test helps quickly identify the cause of the lesion and select effective treatment.

The "Genital Ulcer" PCR panel for women is a comprehensive test elaboreated to identify seven main pathogens associated with the formation of ulcerative lesions in the anogenital area: Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, Haemophilus ducreyi (chancroid), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Lymphogranuloma venereum (lymphogranuloma venereum), Treponema pallidum (syphilis), and Varicella-zoster virus (herpes virus type 3).

  • HSV-1/HSV-2 is one of the most common causes of genital ulcers, often accompanied by flu-like symptoms during primary infection. In women, it affects the external genitalia, urethra, and anogenital area. Attention is paid to diagnosis during pregnancy planning or during pregnancy.
  • Haemophilus ducreyi causes chancroid, a sexually transmitted disease characterized by painful ulcers and swollen lymph nodes. Rapid detection of the pathogen is essential to prevent complications.
  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems. It can be asymptomatic or cause severe systemic damage.
  • Chlamydia trachomatis (LGV variant) affects the lymph nodes and soft tissues of the urogenital tract. It is characterized by systemic manifestations and localized ulcerative lesions.
  • Treponema pallidum, the causative agent of syphilis, is transmitted primarily through sexual contact. It can also be transmitted transplacentally or through casual contact. Early detection is critical to preventing the progression of the infection.
  • Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) causes chickenpox and herpes zoster. After the initial infection, it remains latent with the potential for reactivation as a painful herpes rash, especially in older women.

This test allows for rapid identification of the cause of genital ulcers, the prescription of targeted therapy, an assessment of the infectious risk to sexual partners, and the prevention of complications – especially important during pregnancy, frequent relapses, or in patients with weakened immune systems.

When and who needs the test?

  • If there are ulcers, erosions, or painful lesions in the genital area, perineum, or anus.
  • If the following symptoms are present: itching, burning, painful urination, swelling, lymphadenopathy.
  • If genital herpes, syphilis, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum, or herpes zoster are suspected.
  • In patients with recurrent or atypical lesions, or ineffective previous treatment.
  • Before invasive gynecological procedures or during pregnancy preparation.
  • In women with weakened immune systems (immunodeficiency, HIV) when the risk of generalized infection increases.
  • As part of the differential diagnosis for atypical discharge or chronic inflammatory processes.

Biological material

  • Site-specific scrapings collected depending on the test

Preparation for cytology

  • Collect the material before starting treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs (general and local action).
  • In case of treatment monitoring – 14 days after the end of the course of treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse for 3 days.
  • Exclude douching and the use of vaginal...
