Description

A PCR test can confirm or rule out tick infection.

Important! An infected tick does not guarantee infection in the person it bites, but there is a 100% risk of developing the disease if it remains on the body for a long time (>72 hours).

Lyme disease is an infectious disease transmitted by the bite of a tick infected with the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato bacteria complex.

Tick activity occurs in the spring and fall.

Early symptoms of the disease are nonspecific and easily mistaken for a viral infection, while later symptoms cause severe damage to the joints (arthritis), heart (carditis), and nervous system (neuroborreliosis).

Diagnosis is a two-step process: detection of antibodies to the pathogen and confirmation of the result by blotting analysis.

When and who needs the test?

  • To determine whether an attached tick is infected after removal.
  • To identify infected ticks in natural foci during their active season.

Biological material

  • Tick

Preparing

  • Place the tick (a part or whole body) on a damp cloth in a tightly closed transport container.
  • It is recommended to deliver it to the laboratory center on the day of removal from the body.
  • In case if it is impossible to deliver the tick on the day of removal, it is recommended to store the transport container...
