Description
Lyme disease (Lyme borreliosis) is a bacterial infectious disease transmitted to humans by Ixodidae ticks. Infection occurs when a tick or nymph attaches to the skin and begins feeding. This often happens during walks or outdoor recreation. A tick can attach to any exposed area of the body, but most often they are found in the neck/head area, groin, and armpits – these are the areas where the skin is more delicate and blood flow is greater.
This test allows for the detection of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato genetic material in the tick's biomaterial. It is a specific and rapid method for diagnosing an infected tick. Timely medical consultation after a tick bite is important, as Lyme disease is a very serious condition that can present with a wide range of clinical symptoms and cause significant complications. Lyme borreliosis diagnosed in its early stages through clinical testing is highly treatable. Therefore, to prevent the disease from progressing into a more severe form, self-treatment should be avoided.
When and who needs the test?
- Detection of possible tick infection for the timely diagnosis of Lyme borreliosis and the implementation of preventive and therapeutic measures
- Identification of infected ticks in natural foci during the season of their activity
