Description

PCR is the most sensitive and specific diagnostic method for Varicella zoster.

When and who needs the test?

  • diagnosis of chickenpox, incl. with an atypical clinical picture, suspicion of a generalized process, damage to the central nervous system, especially against the background of HIV infection;
  • the presence of a vesicular rash, especially in pregnant women and newborns, as well as in persons planning a pregnancy;
  • differential diagnosis of exanthemic diseases;
  • symptoms of congenital infection, malformations in newborns.

Preparing for a saliva testing

  • for 4 hours before collecting saliva, avoid eating, drinking alcohol, and taking medications;
  • rinse your mouth with boiled water three times before collecting saliva;
  • deliver to the department according to the schedule for collecting the material.
