Description
PCR is the most sensitive and specific diagnostic method for Varicella zoster.
When and who needs the test?
- diagnosis of chickenpox, incl. with an atypical clinical picture, suspicion of a generalized process, damage to the central nervous system, especially against the background of HIV infection;
- the presence of a vesicular rash, especially in pregnant women and newborns, as well as in persons planning a pregnancy;
- differential diagnosis of exanthemic diseases;
- symptoms of congenital infection, malformations in newborns.
