Description
Varicella-Zoster Virus PCR in saliva is a noninvasive test that detects herpesvirus type 3 (VZV), which causes chickenpox and shingles. It is suitable for diagnostic testing in children, immunocompromised patients, and those with suspected viral reactivation.
When and who needs the test?
- If chickenpox or shingles is suspected, especially in the absence of a rash.
- For patients with atypical disease or weakened immune systems.
- For non-invasive diagnostics (children, the elderly, cancer patients).
- For monitoring viral reactivation in immunosuppressed individuals.
- For pregnant women when other sample collection methods are not possible.

Preparing for a saliva testing
