Description
PCR testing for Neisseria gonorrhoeae in urine is a non-invasive method for diagnosing gonorrhea. It allows for highly accurate detection of the pathogen's DNA, even in asymptomatic cases. It is suitable for initial screening, especially in men or when a swab test is not available.
When and who needs the test?
- For symptoms of urethritis: abnormal discharge, burning, dysuria.
- In men – as an alternative to urethral swab.
- If an STI or contact with an infected partner is suspected.
- Women for whom invasive sampling methods are undesirable or contraindicated.
- As part of screening in at-risk groups (frequent partner change, HIV).
- Before planning a pregnancy, ART, or gynecological interventions.
