Description
PCR testing for Mycoplasma genitalium in urine is a non-invasive method for detecting sexually transmitted infections. It is indicated for symptoms of urethritis, infertility, recurrent STIs, or as a screening test for patients with high-risk sexual contacts.
When and who needs the test?
- For symptoms of urethritis: abnormal discharge, burning, or pain during urination.
- For men – for initial screening or to clarify the diagnosis if an STI is suspected.
- For women and men – in cases of infertility or miscarriage.
- For negative smear/PCR results from scrapings, but with clinical symptoms.
- Before IVF, ICSI, or reproductive material donation.
- In cases of recurrent STIs or ineffective previous therapy.

- Urine is collected before the start of treatment with antibacterial/antifungal drugs.
