Description
PCR testing for Neisseria gonorrhoeae in semen is an accurate method for detecting gonococcal infections affecting the male genitourinary system. It is recommended for urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis, sperm abnormalities, infertility, and recurrent STIs.
When and who needs the test?
- Men with symptoms of urethritis, prostatitis, or epididymitis.
- In cases of fertility problems or abnormal sperm counts.
- In cases of ineffective treatment of STIs or recurrences.
- As an alternative to a urethral swab if it is refused or impossible to perform.
- Before IVF, ICSI, or sperm donation – to rule out latent infection.
