3072. PCR. Herpes virus type 1 and 2 (CSF, qualitative determination)
Important information
*For testing, the brougt-in biomaterial is taken
Description
Herpes simplex viruses types 1 and 2 are widespread (it is believed that more than 90% of the population are infected with them). They provoke the development of herpes on the skin and mucous membranes of the face, in the perineum, buttocks, limbs. In addition, they can cause severe damage to the nervous tissue.
Determination of the genetic material of viruses in the cerebrospinal fluid allows us to confirm the penetration of herpes viruses 1 and type 2 into the central nervous system.
The test is used to diagnose herpetic encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, and other inflammatory diseases of the nervous system.
When and who needs the test?
- to confirm the diagnosis with symptoms of herpetic lesions or neonatal herpes;
- to detect herpes virus infection of the genital organs in men and women and control its treatment;
- to test a woman for herpes before and during pregnancy (if there is a risk of infection);
- for preventive examination of healthy people.
Biological material
- Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
Preparation as recommended by your doctor
