Important information
*For testing, the brougt-in biomaterial is taken
Description
PCR testing for herpesvirus types 1 and 2 in cerebrospinal fluid is a highly accurate method for detecting HSV infection of the central nervous system. It is performed when herpes meningitis or encephalitis is suspected, especially in weakened patients.
When and who needs the test?
- If viral encephalitis or meningitis is suspected.
- In patients with high fever, seizures, or impaired consciousness.
- In newborns and older children – if neonatal herpes is suspected.
- In immunosuppressed individuals (those with HIV, cancer, or after organ transplantation).
- For rapid verification of HSV as a cause of CNS damage.
- In cases of atypical herpes infection.
Biological material
- Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
Preparation as recommended by your doctor
