3063. PCR. Toxoplasma gondii (CSF, qualitative determination)
Important information
*For testing, the brougt-in biomaterial is taken
Description
PCR testing of cerebrospinal fluid for Toxoplasma gondii is a method for detecting parasite DNA when CNS lesions are suspected. It provides a qualitative result (detected/not detected). It is used in immunosuppressed patients, HIV/AIDS patients, and when congenital toxoplasmosis is suspected.
When and who needs the test?
- For patients with HIV/AIDS with suspected encephalitis.
- For focal neurological symptoms, fever, and altered consciousness associated with immunosuppression.
- For newborns with clinical signs of CNS damage with suspected congenital toxoplasmosis.
- For a comprehensive assessment of neuroinfections of unknown etiology, in conjunction with MRI, serology, and clinical data.
Biological material
- Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
Preparation as recommended by your doctor
The sampling should be done by your doctor. Deliver collected biomaterial to the laboratory for testing.
