3025. Package #21 (PCR: mycoplasma, ureaplasma, chlamydia)

Package No. 21 includes PCR diagnostics for Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma hominis, and Ureaplasma species. It helps identify hidden urogenital infections that affect reproductive health and can be asymptomatic.

PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is a highly sensitive molecular genetic method that can detect even minimal amounts of pathogen DNA before the onset of clinical symptoms. This method is effective for diagnosing chronic, asymptomatic, and mixed urogenital infections, cervicitis, and infertility.

The package includes tests for:

• Chlamydia trachomatis – an intracellular parasite that causes chlamydia, one of the most common sexually transmitted infections. It is often asymptomatic, causing non-gonococcal urethritis in men and cervicitis in women;
• Mycoplasma hominis – an opportunistic pathogen that parasitizes the epithelium of the urogenital tract. It can cause bacterial vaginosis, urethritis, prostatitis, and orchiepididymitis;
• Ureaplasma species (U. urealyticum and U. parvum) are opportunistic pathogens with urease activity. U. urealyticum is more often associated with pathology, while U. parvum can be detected in healthy women. At high concentrations, both pathogens can cause inflammatory changes in the genitourinary system.

Symptoms that indicate testing include pain in the groin or lower abdomen, especially when urinating, burning, itching, mucous or purulent discharge, and discomfort during intercourse. A test is also recommended if asymptomatic carriage is suspected, in cases of unsuccessful treatment, or before planning a pregnancy.
