Description
A laboratory test for diagnosing and monitoring the treatment of conditions associated with the development of male secondary sexual characteristics in women; for assessing the activity of major male sex hormones in peripheral tissues, particularly in cases of male-pattern hair growth in women.
When and who needs the test?
- For the diagnosis of hirsutism, including differential diagnosis.
- For monitoring the treatment of hirsutism.
- For assessing androgen activity specifically at the skin level.
- For the diagnosis of hormonal disorders accompanied by excessive adrenal androgen production (e.g., polycystic ovary syndrome, adrenal hyperplasia).
Testing for androstanediol glucuronide in blood is indicated in the following cases:
- in women with excessive male-pattern hair growth (on the face, chest, upper abdomen);
- for differential diagnosis and monitoring of hirsutism in both men and women;
- for evaluating the enzymatic activity of 5-alpha-reductase;
- for determining the activity of male sex hormones specifically at the level of the skin.
