Description
IgA antibodies to Candida albicans indicate current or recent candidal infection, particularly in the mucous membranes. The test is used to diagnose chronic or localized candidiasis, especially in immunosuppressed patients or those with recurrent infections.
When and who needs the test?
- For symptoms of chronic or recurrent candidiasis (vaginal, oral, gastrointestinal).
- For patients with compromised immune systems (HIV, cancer, post-chemotherapy).
- For suspected candidiasis in children, newborns, or the elderly.
- To assess the activity of the process during treatment.
- As an auxiliary test in cases of questionable or negative PCR/culture results, but with a clinical picture.
