Description

The test quantifies the level of IgG antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein. The presence of IgG antibodies to the S protein may indicate both a previous COVID-19 infection and an effective immune response following vaccination.

SARS-CoV-2 is an RNA virus that causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

It is transmitted primarily through respiratory droplets and contact with contaminated surfaces. The incubation period is 2-14 days.

Symptoms range from mild to severe and may include:

  • fever;
  • cough;
  • shortness of breath;
  • loss of taste and smell;
  • muscle pain;
  • headache;
  • gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea and diarrhea).

COVID-19 can cause complications, including pneumonia, thrombosis, and myocarditis, especially in patients with chronic illnesses, weakened immune systems, or the elderly.

After an infection, the body produces antibodies to both the spike (S) and nucleocapsid (N) proteins. In response to vaccination, antibodies are produced only to the S protein, as it is included in vaccines (mRNA and vector).

This test helps assess the presence and level of specific immunity, track its dynamics over time, and decide on vaccination.

When and who needs the test?

  • After vaccination – to assess immunity development.
  • After COVID-19 – to assess post-infection immunity.
  • For individuals at high risk of infection (e.g., healthcare personnel, public transportation workers, service industry workers).
  • For planning revaccination or participation in epidemiological studies.

Preparing for a blood test

In order to exclude factors that may affect the test results, we recommend to follow the preparation rules:
