Description

The comprehensive test includes the QuantiFERON test, a test used to diagnose latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), as well as a clinical blood test, which allows for a comprehensive assessment of overall health and the detection of inflammation, anemia, and other pathological conditions.

Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is a condition in which Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria are present in a person's body but there are no active symptoms of the disease, meaning the person is not infectious to others. A small percentage of infected individuals (approximately 1.6%) may develop active tuberculosis. This risk is increased by the presence of underlying conditions that weaken the immune system.

The QuantiFERON test does not produce a false-positive result after BCG vaccination, unlike the Mantoux skin test.

At the same time, a positive result does not distinguish active from latent tuberculosis, and interferon levels do not indicate the severity or stage of the infection.

When and who needs the test?

  • Individuals with suspected latent tuberculosis infection, especially children and immunocompromised patients.
  • Individuals in close contact with a person with active tuberculosis.
  • To confirm skin test results and rule out a post-vaccination reaction in case of a positive Mantoux test (especially in children).
  • Individuals with contraindications to tuberculin skin testing.
  • HIV-positive patients, individuals on hemodialysis.
  • Before prescribing immunosuppressive therapy (e.g., anti-TNF-based drugs: infliximab, adalimumab, etanercept), when latent tuberculosis must be ruled out.
  • For screening of designated population groups (medical professionals, social workers, teachers, public transportation workers, etc.).

  • Venous blood

Preparing for a blood test
