2384. Opisthorchis felineus, IgM antibodies
Description
The test detects IgM antibodies to Opisthorchis felineus, the causative agent of opisthorchiasis. IgM antibodies are detectable in the blood within a few days of infection and indicate an acute phase of infection or a recent infection.
When and who needs the test?
- Adults and children with symptoms that may indicate opisthorchiasis: fever, pain in the right hypochondrium, liver enlargement, nausea, vomiting, skin rash.
- For the differential diagnosis of opisthorchiasis and other helminthiases with similar clinical manifestations (e.g., clonorchiasis).
- People in high-risk groups, particularly fishermen, workers in the fishing industry, and anyone who regularly comes into contact with freshwater fish or consumes it without sufficient cooking.
