Description
Package No.138 — a set of studies used to diagnose borreliosis. Boreliasis (Lyme disease) is a systemic infectious disease that is carried by ticks. It is divided into 3 stages.
Stage 1 is characterized by the appearance of an annular redness around the bite site, fever, and chills. At this stage, it is possible to determine IgM antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi.
Stage 2 begins in a few weeks and is manifested by arthritis, meningitis, myocarditis. During this period, IgM antibodies and, in some cases, IgG antibodies to borelia are detected.
Stage 3 is recurrent erosive arthritis, encephalomyelitis. IgG antibodies are secreted in the body. IgM antibodies appear in response to the penetration of the pathogen (acute phase), and IgG antibodies indicate the chronization of the process. This package is used for the diagnosis of borreliosis (Lyme disease) and their differential diagnosis with other diseases transmitted through insect bites.
When and who needs the test?
Testing is recommended for symptoms such as:
- fever;
- headache;
- fatigue.
The onset of symptoms is preceded by walks in the forest or park, especially during spring and summer. Often, at the site of a tick bite, there is an inflammatory reaction on the skin with a characteristic pattern in the form of a target: a red spot at the site of the bite and a red ring around it (erythema annulus). In some cases, erythema does not occur, which complicates the diagnosis.
