Description
Pancreatic elastase is one of the basic enzymes of the pancreas that plays an important role in digestion.
Determination of pancreatic elastase in feces makes it possible to assess the functional activity of the pancreas, diagnose pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, oncological diseases, and determine the effectiveness of treatment of secretory insufficiency.
When and who needs the test?
- clinical signs of insufficiency of exocrine pancreatic function;
- chronic pancreatitis or cystic fibrosis of the pancreas;
- cystic fibrosis;
- pancreatic neoplasms;
- monitoring of treatment for previously diagnosed exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

Preparing for stool testing
- Feces should not be sent for testing after an enema, insertion of suppositories, or intake of castor or vaseline oil.
