Description
Rheumatoid factor is a group of autoantibodies belonging mainly to the IgM class. Rheumatoid factor forms immunocomplexes to the Fc fragment of a normal IgG molecule, activates complement, and is fixed in the tissue.
In the formation of rheumatoid factor, B-lymphocytes activated by viral and / or bacterial antigens, which migrated to inflamed joints, take part. The resulting immune complexes activate the complement system and cause damage to the joint. The detection of RF in the blood is of great diagnostic value in recognizing early forms of rheumatoid arthritis.
