Description
Bordetella pertussis is a causative factor in the development of whooping cough (an acute infectious disease characterized by bouts of spastic coughing). The human body reacts to the penetration of bacteria by releasing antibodies.
Determination of the levels of IgM antibodies (acute phase antibodies) confirms the role of the bacterium Bordetella pertussis in the development of the disease.
The test is used to diagnose whooping cough in the acute period of the disease. To increase the information content and accuracy, the test should be taken in combination with the determination of IgG antibodies to whooping cough and the qualitative determination of the presence of bacteria in scrapings from the pharynx and pharynx.
