Description
CA 242 is a specific tumor marker that is detected in the body in the case of the development of tumors of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, intestines, pancreas).
The test is widely used if there is a suspicion of pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, in evaluating the effectiveness of their treatment to monitor relapses and detect metastases.
It should be taken in combination with other tumor markers (CA 19-9, CA 50, CA 72-4, etc.).
When and who needs the test?
- monitoring the effectiveness of treatment for cancer of the pancreas, colon, rectum and identifying relapses of the disease;
- differential diagnosis of malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and benign diseases (pancreatitis, liver disease).
