Description
Troponin is a protein involved in muscle contraction. Troponin I, responsive to damage to heart cells, is a specific marker of ischemic and necrotic changes in the muscle tissue of the heart. It is used to diagnose myocardial infarction, severe angina pectoris, predict the further course and select an effective treatment for these diseases.
Troponin should be studied in combination with C-reactive protein, AST, LDH, creatinine phosphokinase-MB.
When and who needs the test?
- diagnosis of myocardial infarction;
- examination of patients with myocardial infarction and unstable angina pectoris for prognostic purposes;
- choice of treatment tactics for patients with acute coronary syndrome;
- control of the effect of chemotherapy on the myocardium.
