Description
Antisperm antibodies are immunoglobulins that affect the membrane of the spermatozoon, which leads to the impossibility of fertilization. ASAT can reduce sperm motility, prevent them from entering the cervical mucus, disrupt the process of egg fertilization, blastocyst implantation, or inhibit the growth of the embryo. ASAT can appear in the body of both men and women.
This test is performed to diagnose infertility. In combination with it, it is possible to prescribe the test for antibodies to ovarian tissue in women or a MAR test.
When and who needs the test?
Diagnosis of the causes of immunological infertility:
- infertility of a married couple (determination is recommended for men and women, since there may be options for the presence of ASA in each of them);
- unsuccessful IVF attempts;
- in men: deviations in the spermogram: agglutination, aggregation, decreased sperm motility, past testicular trauma or biopsy, vasectomy;
- abnormal postcoital test.
