Description

IgG antibodies to Ureaplasma urealyticum indicate a past or chronic infection. The test is used to detect the immune response to the pathogen in cases of infertility, chronic inflammation of the urogenital tract, and pregnancy complications.

Ureaplasma urealyticum is an opportunistic pathogen that can be part of the normal microflora of the urogenital tract, but under certain conditions, it can cause inflammatory diseases. In women, it is associated with cervicitis, endometritis, bacterial vaginosis, salpingitis, chronic pelvic pain, miscarriage, and complications of IVF. In men, it is associated with urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis, and infertility.

IgG antibodies develop several weeks after infection and persist for a long time. Their presence indicates a past or chronic infection, even if there are no active symptoms. IgG antibodies do not indicate an acute inflammatory process, but they can establish previous exposure to U. urealyticum, which is important when diagnosing infertility or preparing for pregnancy.

The test results have additional value when combined with IgA and PCR tests, helping to determine the phase of infection (acute, chronic, past) and optimize the treatment approach.

When and who needs the test?

  • Couples with unexplained infertility or infertility of tubal/inflammatory origin.
  • Women with chronic pelvic inflammatory diseases or miscarriage.
  • Men with chronic prostatitis or abnormal sperm analysis.
  • Recurrent STIs, especially if PCR/IgA are negative.
  • To assess the immune system during preparation for IVF, ICSI, or donation.

Biological material

  • Venous blood
