Description
Chlamydia trachomatis, IgM antibodies – a blood test for detecting acute chlamydial infection. IgM antibodies appear first in cases of infection (after 2-3 weeks). Their presence may indicate an active phase of the disease. This test is important for diagnosing current infection and in the presence of symptoms. Interpretation requires consideration of the clinical picture.
When and who needs the test?
- For acute symptoms of infection (dysuria, discharge, pain);
- In patients with suspected primary infection;
- In newborns with suspected intrauterine infection;
- In pregnant women – as part of an examination if there is a risk of complications;
- As an adjunct to PCR or other serological tests.
