2033. Rubella virus, IgM antibodies
Description
The IgM antibody test for rubella virus can detect acute or recent infection. It is used in cases of rash, fever, or lymphadenopathy, as part of TORCH screening, and in contacts during epidemiological surveillance.
When and who needs the test?
- Pregnant women – with a positive TORCH screening and symptoms of infection (fever, rash, lymphadenitis).
- Women who became pregnant immediately after vaccination or had contact with an infected person.
- Newborns with suspected congenital rubella.
- Patients with acute rash syndrome, especially during an outbreak.
- To confirm the diagnosis of rubella in the early stages.
