Description
IgM antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii indicate acute or recent infection. IgM testing is used to diagnose primary toxoplasmosis, particularly in pregnant women, newborns, and patients with suspected active CNS or ocular involvement.
When and who needs the test?
- Pregnant women – to detect primary infection that poses a threat to the fetus.
- Newborns – to diagnose congenital toxoplasmosis.
- Patients with immunosuppression or HIV – if CNS toxoplasmosis, chorioretinitis, or myocarditis are suspected.
- For acute clinical manifestations (lymphadenitis, fever, eye damage).
- In cases of IgG seroconversion or for pre-pregnancy/IVF screening.
