Description
An IgG antibody test to the herpes virus type 6 (HHV-6) can determine whether a person has previously been infected. Infection typically occurs in childhood. Detected IgG antibodies indicate acquired immunity or that the virus is inactive in the body.
When and who needs the test?
- For prolonged weakness, increased fatigue, and fever of unknown etiology.
- For children after a three-day fever – to confirm exposure to the virus.
- Immunosuppressed patients (with HIV, cancer, or after organ transplantation).
- For suspected HHV-6 reactivation in adults or children.
- To assess the risk of complications in patients with chronic viral infections.
- Before or after immunosuppressive therapy.
